Seal Rings

Seal rings are designed to stop flow or leakage into the packing case vent or distance piece. The basic sealing ring design is an assembly of rings cut into segments and overlapped at the joints to form a seal.

Common seal ring styles are presented below. Contact your T.F. Hudgins representative for more information and engineering assistance with your application.

BT Rings

The most basic single-acting seal ring, a BT ring consists of a radial-cut ring and a butt-tangent cut ring.

BTR Rings

The BTR ring adds a radial-cut backup ring to prevent extrusion of the ring material.

BTRR Rings

The BTRR ring is a low-leakage ring that utilizes uncut ring technology. It consists of a radial/butt-tangent pair with two, radial-cut backup rings. The first backup ring closes down on the rod under pressure to seal, making the BTRR a more efficient seal ring.

BTUU Rings

The BTUU ring is a low-leakage ring that utilizes uncut ring technology. It consists of a radial/butt-tangent pair with two, uncut backup rings. The first backup ring closes down on the rod under pressure to seal, making the BTUU a more efficient seal ring.

CRR Rings

The CRR ring is a low-leakage ring that utilizes uncut ring technology for high-pressure applications. It consists of a radial/tangent pair with two, radial-cut backup rings. The first backup ring closes down on the rod under pressure to seal, making the CRR a more efficient seal ring.
